FSDU Custom Free Standing Display Unit
The FSDU (Free Standing Display unit) can be a great way of presenting your products or brand in a retail or exhibition environment. There are many variations of standard display units and there are variations that can be mass-produced from cardboard and other temporary substrates. Here at DMS, we aim to bring you an FSDU that is custom-made and available as a bespoke unit for smaller organisations that may only want one FSDU.
Diamondbrite FSDU
Earlier this year DMS Graphics was approached by Diamonbrite to help create a Free Standing Display unit to showcase their retail range of products. The unit needed to be bespoke, portable, relatively strong, eye-catching, and available in smaller order quantities. At first, DMS looked for one of the pre-fabricated off-the-shelf FSDU systems but there was nothing to suit the need. Mark Steward at DMS Graphics decided the best solution was to design and fabricate the unit from scratch.
The Concept of the Free Standing Display Unit
The first step was to design a flat-panel Free Standing Display unit concept that would fit together like a jigsaw puzzle,
Once the template was created, a suitable substrate with strength and stability needed to be found. When producing the FSDU DMS decided to use 10mm Rigid foam PVC. This would allow a lightweight product with enough strength to hold a reasonable load. 10mm Foam PVC is a versatile substrate that can be directly printed or print mounted and cut on a CNC to any shape required.
Designing the FSDU
Working with Diamondbrite and following their brand guidelines, DMS graphics produced the Design for this particular FSDU.
The Prototype
Diamondbrite then commissioned a singular unit to be used at The Goodwoood Festival of Speed to display products alongside their existing metal units. This would prove to be a great test of the strength and stability of the FSDU. The stand was on Display from Wednesday to Sunday carrying a selected range of Diamondbrite products and we are glad to say it was more than capable of the task.
Producing the Free Standing Display System
Moving on from the festival of speed, Diamondbrite ordered 15 retail units to supply to their customers at the 2023 Caravan and Camping show at the Birmingham NEC. This enabled Diamondbrite to showcase its products on 15 separate exhibition stands throughout the NEC. The Freestanding Display unit also stood as a brand marker providing brand awareness at 15 different locations.
This was a great move by Lance Bosely from Diamondrite. Representing not only brand advertising but, also extra revenue streams from direct retail sales across the whole exhibition. Diamondbrite then took their own Exhibition Stand which was also designed, produced, and installed by DMS. This created the brand focal point for the exhibition. Clients could buy in confidence as the brand appeared at multiple locations.
To produce multiple Free Standing Display Units DMS Graphics decided to directly print the units onto the 10mm foam PVC then cut each unit into a kit form and supply them boxed as individual units. This approach worked well and the units did their job perfectly.
Versatility
The design of the Free Standing Display unit can be easily changed and developed to suit different brands and products. DMS would work with you to develop your Free Standing Display unit design and then re-design it as your brand needs development. Diamondbrite has taken this concept on to offer the FSDU out to its clients as part of its UK branding project. in December 2023 diamondbrite asked DMS to design and preduce a singular FSDU for Team ExcelR8 their sponsors Bristol Street Motors which could be used to promote Diamondbrite products at the 2024 British Touring Car events. This was a simple matter of developing the Diamondbrite artwork to suit the new requirement.
Conclusion
This product is great for someone with a retail requirement and someone looking to expand their brand awareness through product placement. The ability to cut to size and shape means that most brands can create exactly what they want. The fact that the FSDU is available as a singular unit or a mass-produced product means it will grow with the brand.
